{"id":3575,"date":"2017-07-24T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2017-07-24T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/albrechtpartners.com\/meditation\/"},"modified":"2023-11-07T23:48:31","modified_gmt":"2023-11-07T23:48:31","slug":"meditation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/albrechtpartners.com\/en\/meditation\/","title":{"rendered":"From 0 to 100 days of daily meditation\u200a\u2014\u200ais that for you?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s been 100\u2026 actually 130 days that I have been meditating every single day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I\u2019m sharing my observations and hints for those of you who want to try.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Why did I\u00a0start?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the beginning of every new year I label that year with just one word.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">2016 was the year of \u201cbalance\u201d. To balance my over-thinking nature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meditation was a tool I had read about before, but never decided to try.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tim Ferriss (<a href=\"http:\/\/tim.blog\/podcast\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">\u201cThe Time Ferriss Show\u201d<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/tim-ferriss\/tools-of-titans\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">\u201cTools of Titans\u201d<\/a>) convinced me that\u00a0<strong>meditation is the practice most top-achievers<\/strong>\u00a0have in common.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Vishen Lakhiani (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thecodexmind.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">\u201cThe Code of the Extraordinary Mind\u201d<\/a>) provided me with the first tool (Omvana) that led to further research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What do I mean by meditation?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I\u00a0<strong>sit in silence with my eyes closed<\/strong>\u00a0following guidance from an iPhone app and generally focus on my breath.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I have tested a few of those and chose\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.headspace.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Headspace<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I like the calming voice, friendly non-intellectual design and a variety of programs available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When you start there is only one program available \u2014 \u201cTake 10\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is a free set of 10 days of 10-minute guided meditation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How did I practice?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With practice I extended my everyday meditation time to 20 minutes a day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After finishing \u201cTake 10\u201d and another two blocks of basic training I did programs on \u201cAnxiety\u201d, \u201cAppreciation\u201d, \u201cPatience\u201d, \u201cBalance\u201d, Generosity\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now I\u2019m going through the \u201cHeadspace Pro\u201d program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I find it best to sit for 20 minutes as\u00a0<strong>the first thing in the morning<\/strong>, but I meditated in a variety of weird places such as: an ironing room at the hotel in Riga (don\u2019t ask), Uber on the way to work, Beijing airport, plane to New Zealand and at home next to my favourite plants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What are the results (for\u00a0me)?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>I experience an enhanced state of calm. People keep asking me\u00a0<strong>\u201cWhy are you so calm?\u201d<\/strong>.<\/li><li>I feel that there is some space between myself and feelings \/ thoughts that arise in my head. I don\u2019t get involved in them automatically.<\/li><li>When I get angry I feel it only at the surface. It doesn\u2019t disturb me as it used to: the heart pounding and a whole day of re-thinking the situation. It easier for me to get over situations now.<\/li><li>I experience flashbacks during meditation \u2014 I see experiences and thoughts from the previous day popping up. I thought all these emotions were long gone. But they do show up, when given space. That gives a deeper layer of reflection.<\/li><li><strong>I used to be anxious all the time<\/strong>. Mostly about the future and my survival. Now I can sit in silence and be very calm.<\/li><li>Improved relationships with others \u2014 I believe I am becoming a much better listener \u2014 I am very curious about other people \u2014 what they think, feel. It is more pleasant to interact and it is useful.<\/li><li>Discipline \u2014 it is a <a href=\"https:\/\/albrechtpartners.com\/en\/getting-back-on-track-mental-tips-for-keeping-your-habits\/\">habit <\/a>that can be a great start to discipline as it is the first thing done in the morning. It helped me improve my morning routine.<\/li><li>I feel that it\u2019s a process where you let go of all perfectionism. Some days it is very difficult to sit and meditate. I catch myself engaged with thoughts all the time. The thing is not to try to change it, but to\u00a0<strong>observe and let go.<\/strong><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Is meditation for\u00a0you?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can find a lot of research showing that meditation works and develops your brain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you feel you lack some calmness, you get angry often or you worry a lot \u2014 <strong>just try it<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Download and test different apps, take your time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And don\u2019t expect any result after the first few times. Just enjoy the time for yourself. And maybe you will be surprised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Is it for you or not? You will not know unless you try. Just invest 10 minutes to find out for yourself.
